These are my mini-sunflowers which I grew from seeds and I'm insanely proud of them.
Oh, and Katie? I tried the Photojojo trick with backing up and using the Portrait setting to blur the background. It worked but was a bit frustrating since I was so far away I couldn't fiddle with the flowers at all but I'm assuming that would be less of a problem if I was working with people.

This is one of those shots that you take and while you know it's not so great technically, it's a winner for you. This is my feet propped up on a flower pot while I was hanging out one evening. When I look at this picture I feel the warm sun and hear the crickets beginning to chirp and the small part of me that enjoys summer and all its glories just rises up and rejoices.

Holt Hometown Festival always has the best fireworks and this time I tried capturing shots with the assistance of my tripod. Still not the best shots, but I think an improvement on my
last batch.

Lots of fireworks in this shot as they got closer to the grand finale. The lowest ones are those crackly fireworks which are my all time favorites.

I was driving down back country roads when I scared my passengers by braking to a halt and yelling "T-REX! T-REX IN THE CORNFIELD!" It's at this point that I learned that my passengers would not be my first choices to have if dinosaurs were brought back to life and it came down to a battle of epic proportions. Somehow I don't think "oooh, can you get a picture?" is the response that would save our lives.
Remember all the veggies from the last post? Bet you didn't know they were more than just food. They're art!

Happy art!

One weekend we hit up every roadside stand we drove past. Met the best people and got bushels of fruits and veggies. So many that it was easier to wash them off in the parking lot with the hose.

I just love the colors here.

Took my little sister to see The Breakfast Club when the local theater had a John Hughes marathon. There weren't a lot of people in the theater so there was no problem with us laughing as loud as we could and talking along to our favorite parts.
Had a boatload of zucchini and decided to try out a few new recipes.

Shredded zucchini and squash pancakes. Tasty, especially with a dollop of campfire sauce on top.

Parmesan garlic zucchini fries. These never really dried out enough (it's possible I wasn't patient) so they didn't turn out. They were yummy but not really fry-like.
When walking into a store one night my sandals fell apart in the parking lot. I shuffled into the door and stood there as the greeter (who was someone I knew so it wasn't so bad) laughed and laughed. I sat on a bench and tried in vain to fix the shoe but eventually I had to give up and concede that it was a lost cause. Luckily the store had a shoe department...I just needed to make it to the back of the store. Shuffling and hopping wasn't going to work so the greeter grabbed one of those huge tape guns and watched (and laughed) as I wrapped tape around my shoe several times.

There is a reason that tape is not used as a normal shoe repair tool. I was more focused on getting things done quickly than making it pretty so it looked horrible and it made a lovely 'shuck-shick' sound every time I stepped. I tried it out for a couple of steps up front to make sure it was going to hold and then I made my way as quickly as I could to the shoe department. Of course, the faster I walked, the more pronouced my 'shuck-shick' noise became. I tried to shuffle my foot along the floor to deaden the noise but all that did was make the 'shick' into more of a 'sssssssshick'. I think I heard the greeter (and the people at the service desk where she got the tape) laughing all the way to the back of the store.
But I made it, got new shoes and laughed a lot. Although it was much funnier after I had new shoes on and I was waving my taped sandal in the air.
